Iron County Guacamole – Whose is best?

Iron County Guacamole – Whose is best?

I recently ran a survey/quiz on my Facebook page asking locals to rate which restaurant, regardless of whether Mexican or not, offers the best Guacamole. There were a little over 200 responses based on 11 local restaurants.  None of the chain Mexican establishments were included, based on respondents putting their favorite place on the list.

What was interesting was the questions received – What is Guacamole?

We assume sooooo much these days but should not assume anything.  Here’s the short answer to “What is Guacamole?”

According to Wikipedia, Guacamole is an avocado-based dip, spread, or salad first developed in Mexico.  In addition to its use in Modern Mexican cuisine, it has become part of international and American Cuisine as a dip, condiment, and salad ingredient.

Question #2  – What do you eat with Guacamole?

      • Spread it on toast
      • Use in place of mayonnaise in sandwiches
      • Add to deviled eggs
      • Eat with fried fish
      • Use as a dip for fresh veggies
      • Eat with your favorite chip

Question #3 – Which avocados are the best for Guacamole?

Haas avocados are smaller with bumpy skin (nicknamed Alligator Pears) that darken as they ripen, and their flesh is very creamy.  They are the best for Guacamole.

Florida avocados are larger, smoother skin, and better sliced for salads and in sandwiches.

Avocado Trivia –

Avocado is a derivative of the Spanish word aguacate, which in turn comes from the Aztec word ahuacatl.

Most avocados consumed in the U.S. are imported.  California is the largest producer of avocados grown in the U.S.

There are most than 3,000 avocado growers in the California, farming on approximately 50,000acres.

A single California Avocado tree can produce, on average, about 60 pounds or 150 fruit a year.

There are seven varieties of avocados grown commercially in California, but the Haas variety is the most popular, accounting for approximately 95 percent of the total crop volume.

Who Has The Best Guacamole in Iron County Utah?

Third Place –  Don Miguel’s’ on Main Street

Second Place – Lupitas’ on Cross Hollow Drive

First Place – Puerto Vallarta on Hwy 56  –  by a vote of 10 to one over the others because of their table-side Guacamole service.

All three have been added to the Iron County Business Locator Map.

Be sure to stop at any of these restaurants on your next visit.
